Pittsburgh Technical Institute first opened its doors in 1946, moved to its 180-acre campus in 2000, and debuted on-campus housing in 2009. PTI Online, the college's distance learning division, was introduced in 2010; the American Academy of Culinary Arts, PTI's culinary school, was launched in 2013; and its Energy Technology Center, a 15,392 square-foot facility housing labs supporting the oil and gas industry, was dedicated in 2013. Since 2009 PTI has been designated a military friendly school by GI Jobs Magazine and features an exclusive Military Lounge for veterans and active duty personnel. Most instruction is provided by full-time faculty. Most programs include an internship. Nineteen advisory boards comprised of nearly 300 members guide program development, providing employer insight and advice regarding curriculum improvement.
